Would They Attack Me?

Would they attack me?
Written by:
Nusaiba Yassin Abbas

I see them coming……..
The dust starts to form and I can hear the horses approaching…..
I see them coming………..
Gunshots in the air, and sense of danger…….
I see them coming…………what should I do?
I know who they are.....but….
Would they attack me, If I speak their language?
Would they attack me, If I disguised myself as a boy?
Would they attack me, If my hut’s roof have not been marked?
Would they attack me, even though I am only nine years old girl?
What should I do?
I know what they are going to do
They already did that to my mother…..
I know what weapon they are going to use
I would rather die, kill myself…….
Before they rape me

  1. Dear sister love you because of your humanity. love you because you still know what's going here despite you live far away. love you because you feel other people's pain despite the distance, you don't even live in Darfur but this is exactly the mouthpiece of this little girl. you said exactly what she would say, so many things are going wrong here. nobody knows exactly where are we going, unfortunately we don't even know who we are. we have to wake up, we have to know that we are just Darfurian, nothing else, we have to forget about stupid tribes, we have to stop listening to people who wanna fool us.
    Thank you

  2. Thank you! Thank you ya Omer!!!! Wallahi, when i wrote this poem, it was an imagination, as if I was the girl who was being raped....as if I am one of the Darfurian women in the camp. I have not experiences any of these tragedies, but I feel it....i feel it in my bones....I feel the tears in my eyes. I wish i had so much power to help my people of Darfur. I do have power, but I need to focus and do the best I can and even more.
